Hi Bates Middle School Community:
The issue of healthier high school start times will be presented once
again to AACPS at the November 20th AACPS school board meeting. Members of
the Start School Later group, health and education experts and interested
parents and students, will have a chance to speak for up to three minutes
during open comments. Please consider joining us, or have your student join us,
in asking for a schedule that allows adolescents and teens to get enough sleep
to be healthy, safe and productive
throughout their high school careers.
We will meet to sign in at 6 pm for
the 7 pm meeting, wearing black or dark blue to represent the color of the sky
overhead when our students walk to the bus stop.
A change can be made,
and has been made in hundreds of other school districts, without adversely
impacting elementary and middle school schedules. It requires the school system
to prioritize health & safety for the students of Anne Arundel
County.
