Hi All,

We will have our last Coffee with the Principal for the year on Friday, April 25th at 8:15 in the Media Center.  Please Come!

Also Remember our Bates 5K!!!!!

The Bates 5K is here again!  This Run/Walk is open to all ages and abilities - parents, neighbors, teachers and of course, students - Bates and all students are encouraged and welcome!  Come on out for this fun morning - with guaranteed sunshine as it has been in each of the past years.

When: Saturday, May 3rd

Where:  Bates Middle School track - behind the school

Time:  Run/Walk starts at 8:30  am - Registration starting at 7:30 am - Warm ups/Stretching at 8:00 am.

Coffee with the Principal - Fri, Feb 28th, 8:15 in the Media Center

Hi All,

We will be having our Coffee with the Principal this Friday, Feb 28th at 8:15 am in the Bates Media Center.

The Coffees are open for parent/guardian discussion and questions to the Bates Administration and among the group in attendance.  Please come!

We will continue our Common Core discussion started during the January Coffee with Mr. McCann, Language Arts Department Chair and Ms. Mullins, Math Department Chair.  Ms. Hoffberger, 7th Grade Assistant Principal will be in attendance rather than Mr. DeRoo as he will be at a conference.

REMINDERS FOR TWO EVENTS:

Legislators representing Anne Arundel County will hold a public hearing on the state's new Common Core Curriculum on Tuesday, January 28.   Interim schools Superintendent Mamie J. Perkins and Henry Johnson of the state Department of Education will give a presentation at the meeting at 6 p.m.   The meeting will be in the Joint Hearing Room in the Legislative Services Building, 90 State Circle. Free parking is available after 6 p.m. in the Bladen Street Garage.

Save the Date:  Maryland PTA Legislative Night in Annapolis, Thursday,February 13^th, 5 – 8 p.m., Room 170, Maryland House of Delegates, 6 Bladen Street.  Remember to bring a photo ID and allow time to go through security before entering the building.

Reminder - Chick-fil-A! and more events

Hello Bates Middle School Community,


Our February Restaurant Night Fundraiser is TONIGHT, Thursday, Feb 28th at the Annapolis Mall location of Chick Filet from 5 - 8 pm! Come out and eat dinner with other Bates Middle School families; 15% of your bill will go to the PTA. Just mention Bates Middle School when paying for your food and the cashier will hit the Spirit Nite button to credit our fundraiser. No flyer necessary. See you there!


Coffee with the Principal is tomorrow, Friday, March 1, at 8:15 am in the Media Center. All are welcome to join or add to our discussion. Homemade breakfast cheesecake is being served!


The MSA tests will be given next week on March 5 and 6 and the following week on March 12 and 13. Donations that are still needed are 6 one gallon jugs of Deer Park water and 48 eight ounce bottles of Deer Park water. Both of these can be found at Sam's Club. Please drop off your donations in the main office. If you would kindly let Mr. Griffiths know you are donating, drop him an email at jgriffiths@aacps.org.

Finally, thank you all for supporting the Italian Dinner and Silent Auction last Friday night.  Our approximate net revenue is $5983, a $1200 increase from the previous year.  We had 255 people attend the dinner and auction.

Chick Filet Thursday 5-8pm and Coffee with Prin Friday

Hi All,

Italian Dinner for the Arts - Friday, February 22, 5:30 - 9 pm at the Bates cafeteria.  Bring the entire family  for a well-priced italian dinner, entertainment and silent auction to benefit PTA programs.

Bates Arts in Motion 5K - Saturday, April 27, 8 am at the Bates track.  Free for Bates students!

Coffee with the Principal 8:15am Friday

Hi All,

Our first Coffee with the Principal is tomorrow, September 28th, in the Media Center starting at 8:15 until 9:00 am.  Please come and join in the discussion.  Bring your own questions or concerns to discuss as well.  Please allow time to sign in at the front office and get a sticker.

Before the Coffee with the Principal, Heather Macintosh, our PTA Wellness Committee Chair, is having a quick meeting at 8:00 am also in the Media Center.  She will be discussing the October Farm Stand event they are planning.

Finally, there will be a middle school PVA information night at Bates on Oct 25th from 6:30-8:00pm for new PVA applicants.  All program magnet information may be accessed at www.aacps.org/magnet.  Any PVA (both middle school and high school) information may be accessed at www.aacps.org/PVA.

There will be a magnet program information session at Annapolis High School on this Monday, Sept. 24th from 6-8pm.  Please come to hear information about all of the magnet programs of choice for your student.

The November Dance Restaurant Night at Zoe's Kitchen is on TUESDAY, November 13th, 4-8:30pm.  This is a correction from the previous email.

Finally, this Friday (Sept 28) is our first Coffee with the Principal at 8:15-9am in the Bates Media Center.  Come and enjoy some coffee, sweets and discussion.
