I have great news for my first post as PTA secretary!
From Mr. Dunn:   "On behalf of Mr. DeRoo, I am pleased to inform you that, once again, Bates met AYP (now called “School Progress”) for the 2011-2012 school year. Congratulations to our students, faculty, parents, and community partners – it takes a team, and each of you should feel extremely proud of your contribution toward this result."
Have a great Summer!!!

Coming up at Bates

Hi, Bates Family -

The PTA looks forward to seeing you tonight at Bates!  This year, students are discouraged from coming to make sure that parents are able to have quality time with each teacher without distraction. Students who do attend will be asked to bring a book to read in the Media Center.  This is also a great time to bring any gently used uniforms for the Uniform Store or books for the Media Center book exchange.

Starting at 6:30, the PTA will have a table to take memberships and sell the Get Smart car magnets.  Each paid member will receive a Bates PTA Handbook - a sort of guide to all things Bates.  If you'd like to fill out your membership form ahead of time, click here for the English version or here for the Spanish version.

The Volunteer Orientations have been added to the Calendar for September, as has the first Jazz Band rehearsal.  Here's an updated list of upcoming events:

* Sept 8 - 7pm:  Back to School Night
* Sept 9 - 7am:  Jazz Band Rehearsal
* Sept 12 - 6:30am:  First Monthly PTA Meeting
* Sept 21 - 11am-12:15:  Volunteer Orientation (Daytime Option)
* Sept 22 - 8:30-9:15:  Coffee with the Principal
* Sept 26:  Otis Spunkmeyer Forms Due!
* Sept 28 - 6:30-8pm:  Volunteer Orientation (Evening Option)

Bates News

Good Morning -

First some dates for your calendar:

Sept 8th:  Back to School Night @ Bates (I believe it starts at 6:30 but will update when I know)
Sept 12th, 6:30pm:  First General PTA Meeting @ Bates

Second, another Bates student featured in Patch (full disclosure:  this time it is my daughter!).  I was mainly happy to see "Bates Middle School" mentioned prominently in a good news article!  Thank you, Patch!  Click here for the Historic Annapolis Patch article.

Best,
