Hello All,
The Annapolis Education Commission, a very effective citizen advocacy group for
public schools in the Annapolis Cluster, was reformed at the end of last school
year to be a 12-person commission composed members of each of the 8 wards in
the city plus 4 "at-large" members. (side note: it is
understood that all interested citizens, card-carrying members or not, will
continue to be welcomed and encouraged to attend all AEC meetings even though
the official commission needed to be formalized in this way)
HOWEVER, the commission is short on member candidates for City Wards 4, 5, 6
and 8 (see map link on left side, http://www.annapolis.gov/Government/Council.aspx).
If you know of any education-minded citizens of these wards, please forward
this email to them to see if they would be willing to serve as their
neighborhood's voice for supporting and improving public education in
Annapolis.
We are looking for nominees to the City's Education Commission, promptly.
Ms. Hilary Raftovich (HRRaftovich@annapolis.gov)
is the contact person for sending a short letter of intent.
In the past, this commission met once per month for 1.5 hours, usually at
5:30. Principals from all Annapolis Cluster schools were in attendance
for most of the meetings last year. For more information about the
Commission itself, please contact Jeff Macris (past President, jrmacris@hotmail.com).
Thanks,
Deirdre
