4 of the 8 Bates History Day students advance to State
Competition!
Bates Middle School chose 8 History Day projects from the 8th grade to compete at the Anne Arundel County Regional History Day with other private and public schools in the area. This year's theme was Turning Points in History: People, Ideas, Events. Congratulations to Avery Groft & Skippy Helmly for winning the Jr. Group Documentary with "The Battle of Bloody Ridge: A WWII Turning Point" and Marshall Flieger for winning Jr. Individual Documentary with "The Invention of the Telephone". Second Place awards, also advancing to states were awarded to Colin Griffin for his Jr. Individual Exhibit "Shock Wave: Dawn of the Atomic Age" and John Macris for his Jr. Historical Paper "Henry Ford and the Model T: American Pioneers". Peter Favret, Ryan Matheu, Ellie Pline, and Ian Robertson received Honorable Mentions in their categories.
