v Call to Order Pledge of Allegiance-Deirdre Ralph, President

vDiscussion:
Deirdre applied for one grant from the Rotary Club of Annapolis. She applied for funding to pay the Chess Club teacher for the 2014-2015 school year.

Discussed purchasing or asking for donations of classroom printers for teachers classroom use.  Bates has 2 copiers and often it is hard to get copier time for teachers and the main office.

Discussed losing the School Resource (SRO) Officer, Ms. Baycorn, due to budget and organizational decisions in the Anne Arundel County Police Department. Officer Baycorn’s last day was the day before Winter Break. She has been placed at the Phoenix Center and is on an on call availability. It was suggested that the PTA write a letter to Lt. Batten, Chief of SRO’s for Anne Arundel County asking to reinstate Officer Baycorn to Bates Middle School. Her presence was a valuable addition to the school and the parents present at the meeting appreciated her contributions to the students, staff, and school and feel that this resource should not be taken away.  We also inquired to Mr. DeRoo as to whether Annapolis Middle School still retains a full time SRO.  He was going to inquire of the AMS principal.

Discussed California Pizza Kitchen fundraiser. Amount collected from this Dec 3, 4, 5 fundraiser was $330.52.

Discussed upcoming events-Italian Dinner and Silent Auction for the Arts on Friday, Feb 21, 5-9 pm.

Discussed the 6 pm Guest Speakers for the next PTA meeting February 10, 2014 – Laura Brino and Jean Orzech.

Discussed the importance of all parents filling out the on line Start School Later Survey everyone should have received in their email-it is due by January 29th. The Start School Later group encourage us to vote Yes for the 13 minutes delay to the start time.

Discussed a planned Open House Tours for interested PVA students being held on Jan 16th.

Meeting was adjourned to attend the Family Book Club meeting with the book "Glory Be" hosted by Andrea Sporre.

Attendees:  Deirdre Ralph, Bliss Kaye, Laurie Goodwin, Mr. DeRoo, Mr. Wolak, Heidi Petras, Jen Macris.
