Dear Parents:
I am again coordinating the Mids for Kids tutoring program for Bates Middle School for the 2011 spring semester.
The Mids for Kids program experienced big growth at USNA last fall. Bates had approximately one-half of the 116 midshipmen who were in the program.
I was notified this afternoon that I would receive the midshipmen names, days and times of our midshipmen volunteers who are slated to commence tutoring during the last week of January. I suspect we will again have approximately 50-60 midshipmen tutors.
The challenging aspect of the program is arranging for parent drivers to carpool midshipmen needing rides between Bates and USNA. Last semester we had arrangements in which one parent picked up the mids from USNA and a different parent returned the mids.
Here is the formula for a successful Mids for Kids program:
(1) Pick-up mids on time
(2) Return mids on time
(3) Communicate (e.g. email and cell phone) regularly with your mids
(4) Arrange for a back-up driver if a conflict arises.
I would appreciate a reply email (send to mhyman@sbgnet.com and put "Mids for Kids" in subject line) expressing interest in possibly participating (short term, the entire semester or as a back-up). Once I have the list of days and times in which mids are actually available then we can get down to the nuts and bolts of who can drive when.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Regards,
---
