More good news from the Coffee with the Principal...
Bates Middle was recently awarded its Green School certification by AACPS. As of last year, there were only 2 middle schools in the county with this distinction! Thanks to all the teachers and administrators who worked hard to make us eligible for this important program.
A component of the Green School application was the development of the Agora Outdoor Classroom Project with a $5,000 grant from Lowe's Educational Foundation. This Saturday (4/30) crews will begin work on the project between the main Bates building and the Arts Annex. Generous funding was also provided by Paradise Landscape & Hardscape of Annapolis who is donating all the labor and some materials - another estimated $5,000 value. Design was done by PTA volunteer Terri Borges in conjunction with Ms. Melton-Koch's 8th grade Tech Ed class. The final drawing and draft design models are on display in the Media Center. Windwood Gardens in Annapolis also supplied some materials at cost. Thank you to all the hard work put in by staff and volunteers on this very cool project that will be a source of pride for years to come!
And last but not least, the folks at Artwalk have notified Dr. Bragdon that they have finally received all the funding they need to complete the proposed ArtWalks project on the chain link fence that goes between the main Bates building and the Arts Annex. This is a $21,000 project that has been several years in the making and will make Bates one of the handful of public art spaces in Annapolis. Thank you Artwalk!
