First - and how do you really follow this? - Bates was given $1 million for renovation of the gym to support community recreation and expansion of the theatre for the Performing Arts. [insert cartwheels here!] We have our own Speaker Mike Busch to thank for championing our cause and providing badly needed capital improvement funds that would not have happened in our lifetime going through traditional County funding. Thank You, Thank You, Speaker Busch!!!
Second, St. Margaret's Church in Annapolis has awarded a $5,000 grant to develop a middle school Chess Program at Bates and Annapolis Middle. This will be used to fund an award-winning Chess Master, Mr. Greg Acholonu, to teach at both schools. Thank you to parent Jeff Macris for applying for this grant for us!
