·         Jan 31 Coffee with the Principal – Feb 28th is the next Coffee w Principal – continued discussion of LA and Math Common Core implementation at Bates
·         Loss of SRO discussed at Jan PTA mtg – new SRO, Timothy Wengert, is now assigned 50% to Bates and 50% Annapolis Middle
·         Safeway Fundraising program Escrip - Update

v  Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC)  – Kia Chandler, CAC representative, not in attendance tonight due to community meeting about cell phone towers proposed at AMS and CAT-North

·         Italian Dinner and Silent Auction for the Arts – Feb 21, 5-9 pm, (Amy Beller), we need Silent Auction donations from the Bates community!
·         Bringing Back Bates – Thursday Feb 13th 6-8 pm, PTA doing refreshments
·         Mids for Kids – Becky Porzillo bporzillo@gmail.com, Need Drivers:  Tuesdays at 1:25pm, Thursdays at 1:25pm, Thursdays at 2:50pm

·         Annapolis Education Commission (AEC) – Feb mtg canceled due to snow, email Trish Irvin at annapoliseducationcommission@gmail.com to be included on AEC emails, next mtg is March 3rd, 5:30-7 pm, location TBD

·         I will help you!  I have the simple guidelines!  Need fresh volunteers with  8th Grade Reception, Multi-Cultural Night restaurant solicitations and Uniform Shirt Swap

General Membership Meeting
February 10, 2014


Arts Integration Presentation by Ms. Laura Brino before the PTA meeting.
Ms. Beller provided introduction of Ms. Brino. Parents viewed the video presentation that Ms. Brino and Ms. Orzack will be showing in San Diego, California in March for the SPARK National Arts Education Association (NAEA) convention.  Parents were invited to create a collage and share with each other.

Discussed possible future guest speakers:  Drug Awareness Officer, Annapolis High School Athletic Director and AHS Sports Boosters President

Call to Order Pledge of Allegiance-Deirdre Ralph, President
Discussed:
 Collaborative relationship with Maryland Hall and the Annapolis Police department to engage at risk students.
The Advisory period that students attend every Wednesday focuses on character traits. There is an eighth grade award at the end of the year for student that demonstrates the most progress. Four Aces.
The new SRO officer, Mr. Timothy Wengert, will split between Bates and Annapolis Middle Schools.
Safeway fundraising program Escrip-does not accept Credit Card, only cash or check to be included in the Bates fundraising credit.
Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) representative, Ms. Kia Chandler, had a conflict and could not attend this evenings PTA meeting.

Principals Report -Mr. DeRoo
Discussed:
·         Positive impact of the Mids for Kids program and that additional drivers are still needed. Contact- bporzillo@gmail.com if you can help drive.
·         The new Running Club for girls every Monday and Thursday. Thanked parent  Mitchell McGuiness (otgmitch@comcast.net) for organizing. Fourteen (14) staff  members assisted and are running the program. Students returned 21 permission slips, 8 girls attended first meeting on 2-10-14. Girls interested should meet in room 120 after school.
·         Mr. DeRoo and Maryland Hall representative Ms. Bowen meet on a regular basis to discuss collaborative partnerships. Beginning and future renovations and additions to Maryland Hall will benefit Bates Middle School.
·         Robotics Team moving on to state convention.
·         The organization-Centra de la Huga helps with homework Tuesdays and Thursdays at Bates.

Committee Reports/Upcoming Events:
·         Italian Dinner – Friday, February 21st.  Still need silent auction items.
