Call to Order-Pledge of Allegiance Deirdre Ralph, President
Approval of Minutes form February 2014 PTA meeting
Treasurer Report: Liz Costello is currently updating Bates
Departments on remaining PTA budget balances. Checkbook balance $18,883.52
Hershey Park Field Trip May 9 (Band, Chorus, Strings)
Deirdre Ralph, Liz Costello, Cindy Applegate assisted in
reviewing the Otis Spunkmyer check update, $112 in bounced checks recovered and
$36 in bank fees reversed. Treasurer looks for patterns and keeps names, so
next year will be better.
February 28-Coffee with the Principal-good discussion on
Common Core Implementation-next and last Coffee mtg. is April 25
-Italian Dinner and Silent Auction for the Arts was a very
nice evening.

Highlights include: the Online option-about ½ did
online, Visa Option for paying for Auction items, jazz band performance, CYSO
performance and their donation to the Bates Middle School music program.
Mr. DeRoo-Principals Report:
Introduced Interpreter Ms. Lopez
Explained the CYSO relationship with Bates and thanked them
for their generous donation. The CYSO relationship began with Dr. Bragdon, and
Mr. VanDerBeek was instrumental in strengthening the relationship.
Bringing Back Bates Evening-Low turnout may be a result of
having to be rescheduled because of weather.
MSA Review-students did well adjusting to different
schedules/snacks/ late lunch
Some students were chosen to field test the PARCC
assessment, did not do math MSA
English Language Learners (ELL) will not take the reading
MSA.
Spirit Week-3/17-3/21
Ms. Hoffberger spoke on the course sign up for 2014-15
school year; there will be online articulation about courses for next year.
Committee Reports/Upcoming Events:
Parent Denise Figuerredo complimented Mr. DeRoo and Ms.
Chitum (Principal, Annapolis High School) for the “Race to Nowhere”
presentation panel discussion.
Ms. Beller works with the food bank to hand out food to students
from Bates, all students will be involved with helping others.

Kia Chandler-CAC-Board of Education
Reported that the Board of Education is considering starting
two hours later in the morning for testing, instead of getting out early.
Start Later Movement is still in the beginning stages of
change…doesn’t look good. Will not start next year. Maybe 2015-16
