Anne Arundel County Council of PTAs (AACCPTAs) News

From AACCPTA President Pam Bukowski:  

1)  In an ongoing effort to help parents and others get answers to their questions  about Maryland’s College and Career-Ready Standards (Common Core), Anne  Arundel County Public Schools is hosting four informal roundtable sessions over  the next six weeks.

In addition, you will find the locations and dates of the scheduled meetings.

2) For those who may have somehow missed this information, there will be school on Monday, April 21.  Formerly, it was to be the last day of our Spring Break.  In addition, the last day of the school year for students will be Wednesday, June 18. 

3) Maureen Grizio, AACPS Health Education Resource Teacher, is reaching out to the community to recruit parents to serve on the Anne Arundel County Public Schools Health Education Material of Instruction Review & Evaluation Committee for our next meetings in April & May 2014.  The committee represents the major geographic areas of the county both at the elementary and secondary levels.  In addition, representatives from the student body, the Health Department, the community, PTA and other concerned individuals serve on this committee.  The committee members are advocates for children and their total health and well being.  This committee reviews all materials of instruction to be used for the approved county curriculum for Health Education grades K-12.  The committee will also make recommendations for further Board of Education review.

The committee will meet 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the  Chesapeake Bay Middle School Resource Center Review and Evaluation Center on the following dates: 
April 24, 2014 – General MOI
May 6, 2014 – Family Life and Human Sexuality MOI
